Our Goals

The main goals of our Pragmatic Social Language groups are to facilitate language and improve social interactions. We focus our goals on the following areas:

Communication Skills

Conversation skills
- recognizing personal space, using an appropriate tone of voice, maintaining a topic, making introductions, taking turns while talking, starting/ending or joining in a conversation, asking questions, shifting topics, being a good listener and giving compliments.

Cooperative Play skills- asking some one to play, joining others in play, compromising, sharing, turn taking, dealing with losing and winning and ending an activity.

Friendship Management-
sharing a friend, respecting personal boundaries, offering help, respecting others opinions, answering and talking on the phone, dealing with peer pressure, and knowing how not to be a tattle- tale.


Emotion Management Skills

Self Regulation-
recognizing feelings, problem solving,keeping calm, understanding anger, dealing with making mistakes, and trying new things.

Empathy- showing understanding for others’ feelings and cheering up a friend.

Conflict Management- being assertive, dealing with teasing, accepting no for an answer, dealing with being left out, giving and accepting criticism, and having a respectful attitude.
